What This Class Is About???

Welcome to LEARNING STRATEGIES!!! The goal of this course is to enhance proficiency in reading, language and mathematics so that students perform better in classes and on standardized tests. Instruction is hands-on and interactive, with opportunities to work collaboratively in groups to solve problems. Student will develop effective study tactics and test taking skills in addition to improving academic abilities. This class may be required if student needs to build academic skills.

This class offers several different programs which each student is guided through to develop his/her reading and math skills. The two math programs which the students work on independently and teacher guided are Navigator Math (workbook based) and Understanding Math (computer based). The two reading programs which the students work on independently and teacher guided are Plugged in to Reading (visual and auditory based) and Lexia (computer based phonics). Learning Strategies uses Star Reading and Star Math as a bases for measurement of growth and development over the school year. The students are tested and scores are documented upon arrival. Every 9 weeks thereafter the students are again tested with scores being documented.
