Florence Middle School is proud to be the recipient of the Dollar General Literacy Foundation Back to School Grant written by Mrs. Debbie Martin, 7th & 8th grade science teacher. The school will receive $4,779.00 for a project titled It's Alive! The project will utilize the high interest topic of science fiction as a catalyst for developing scientific literacy in the 8th grade. The grant will provide funding for the purchase of two science fiction novels for students in language arts classes to study along with life science lab materials for science classes. Artificial silos will collapse between subjects as students assess the methods used in the novels and compare it with their knowledge of life science methods used by experts in the field today. The grant will also provide funding for the purchase of an online program called Study Island. The students will be able to use this program for tutorials and the teachers will be able to track performance in the areas of reading, math and science. Florence Middle School is proud to partner with Dollar General in their “commitment to literacy as an investment that opens doors for personal, professional and economic growth in our community.”

• NEW HOURS FOR SCHOOL – Starting Monday, August 23 we will have new hours for school.  School will still begin at 7:50 (Tardy Bell).  We will be dismissing at 3:05.  The bus riders will be dismissed first.  As soon as the bus riders leave, the car riders will exit the building and load in their cars.  This should be about 3:10-3:15.
