Career Cruising, an online, comprehensive career guidance tool, is utilized by students in grades 6-12 only in Rankin County School District. Career Cruising allows students to take self assessments to identify interests and strengths, explore careers that match interest and strengths, plan high school courses according to post-secondary education or work plans, search for colleges and financial aid/scholarships, and create a portfolio which includes a resume. To access Career Cruising click here.Your student's user ID and password for Career Cruising can be obtained by contacting their school counselor.Some schools work with the National Guard to offer the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) to students. RCSD Elementary School Counselors spent the month of February engaging students in activites and lessons related to College & Career Awareness! Here are some snapshots from our schools showing off the fun they had participating in college & career awareness activites!
Puckett Elementary Career Fair
Stonebridge Elementary School - "Career Contemplations" counselor guided activities/ lessons on thinking about careers students would like.
Richland Elementary School - Where did your teacher go to college? counselor led activities & bulletin board
Northshore Elementary School - students are college and career ready based on their "ACHIEVE" level... student names are placed on the bulletin board when they reach and pass their expected levels. Classroom lessons by the counselor correlate to careers based on lexiles.
Steen's Creek Elementary - Students participate in a poll regarding what they want to be when they grow up. Lessons include watching college and career videos & counselor guided instruction.Brandon Elementary: Counselors did a faculty bulletin board with photos from our college graduations. Also, a college research and pennant activity, and the students completed a career interest in the library and added their name on the career cluster hallway display.Richland Upper Elementary:McLaurin Elementary: Career Fair
Students and staff at Florence Elementary participated in a counselor led College and Career Readiness bulletin board where the faculty posted the college they graduated from and students posted their name on the college they wished to attend. Students participated in career exploration through Achieve 3000 and got to discuss multiple careers with our many community leaders and business men.
Rouse Elementary: Parents came dressed as their profession to greet our morning car riders and bus students. The teachers participated in a college door competition. PTO provided prizes. Pilots from MHP flew their helicopter in and talked with the kids about their job.
