Dyslexia Screening Process
RCSD will screen all students, using the Mississippi College Dyslexia Screener, during the first semester of first grade and the second semester of kindergarten. The screener will address the following components:
• phonological awareness and phonemic awareness
• sound symbol recognition
• alphabet knowledge
• decoding and encoding skills
• rapid naming
Parents will be notified if a student fails the dyslexia screener. The teacher support team will meet to determine next steps for students who fail the screener in grades K and 1.
RCSD, in its discretion, may perform a comprehensive dyslexia evaluation for students who have completed a full year of kindergarten.
