Health Insurance - Effective the 1st day of employment

Rankin County School District offers the State of Mississippi, State and School Employees' Health Insurance Plan through Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi.

Open enrollment is October 1st - October 31st -- effective the first day of following January. Click http://knowyourbenefits.dfa.ms.gov to learn more about your State and School Employees' Health Insurance Plan.

Life Insurance - UNUM Life Insurance Company

The state life insurance is through Unum Life Insurance administered by Millette Administrators. If you desire to enroll in this policy as an employee, then you must do so within the first 31 days of your initial hire date with no questions asked. Anytime beyond the first 31 days you must answer medical questions and be approved for coverage. Supplemental Life, and Dependent Life Insurance are also offered through this company. For more information contact Chelsea McCrory in the Benefits Department at 601-825-5590.

Colonial Life offers a Term Life policy to age 100, of up to $100,000 in coverage through LeadersLife.


Dental Insurance

Dental Insurance is offered by Colonial Life. There are two options to choose from. Plan 1, the Low Option and Plan 4 the High option.

There are no waiting periods or proof of previous coverage needed at the time of enrollment.

Critical Illness

Here's how it works. If you're diagnosed with a covered critical illness, specified critical illness insurance can help with your expenses, so you can concentrate on what's most important - your treatment, care and recovery.

Colonial Life offers a stand alone critical illness policy.  This plan offers guaranteed issue for up to $30,000, meaning that no health questions will be asked for this policy. Please review the Colonial Life Critical Illness flyer for more information.

American Fidelity offers a critical illness policy as an add on, which is only accessible by enrolling in the American Fidelity cancer policy.

Section 125 Benefit Election

American Fidelity also administers the Section 125 Benefit Election, better known as the Cafeteria Plan. Pre- taxing premiums and enrolling in the Flexible Spending Account (FSA) or Dependent Day Care (DDC). The Cafeteria Plan allows you to save tax dollars by taking advantage of pre-taxing eligible benefits such as: health, dental, vision, etc. The maximum amount allowed to contribute into this account is $2,750.00 per calendar year. Because your money goes into the account before income tax is withheld, you pay less in tax and have more disposable income. You may allocate up to $5,000.00 per tax year for reimbursement of eligible dependent care services (or $2,500.00 if you are married and file a separate tax return).
