A little about me...
Hello! My name is Tiffany Withers. I am one of the Self-Contained teachers at Brandon High School. This is my seventh year as a Special Education teacher and my fifth to teach self-contained. Prior to that, I taught 2 years as a Special Education Resource Teacher. Before teaching, I worked as a Special Education Resource Assistant at Stonebridge and Brandon Elementary. During my years as an assistant, I decided to go back to college to obtain my Special Education Teaching Certification. I've always had a passion for students with special needs. Very thankfully, I graduated in May 2012, with my teaching degree with highest honors and as an exemplary awarded student at the University of Southern Mississippi (SMTTT)!!! Because of the blessed experience of 4 1/2 years of already working in the special education classroom setting as an assistant, I was able to jump right into teaching - ready to go! I love my job and enjoy coming to work each day! I hope you are able to see my passion for teaching but even more- my passion for special education students through my teaching practices and interaction with you and your child. I know that I am exactly where I am supposed to be!!
I hold a Graphic Design and Advertising degree. I worked in the corporate advertising field for 13 years. I wanted to spend more time focusing on my family instead of my career, which led me to stepping away from the corporate world, to substituting then to a full time assistant's position and now here I am today!!
I am happily married to my best friend, Richard. We have two daughters, Kaitlyn, who graduated from Brandon High School, Maddie, who is a 9th grader here at BHS and our first grandchild, who was born this summer. Our family has lived in Brandon for over 11 years now.
I am also a 7-year Liver Transplant Survivor!! I believe my transplant has helped me to really connect with my students. I was in a wheelchair for a little while, then transitioned to a walker and scooter to get around after my surgery. I had to go through Physical Therapy sessions. I have scars and have to take daily medicines. What better way to help my students understand that they can still reach their dreams, just as I have, even with all the obstacles they are going through!! Since my surgery, I am doing great! I am blessed to wake up each and every morning! I am blessed to be able to continue out my passion as a Special Education Teacher, to be a wife and mom. I have a FANTASTIC testimony that I LOVE to share! I'm forever thankful for my miracle! I know that I went through my transplant for a reason and I am very thankful to live life each day! I encourage you to sign up to be an organ donor!
