Student Loan Forgiveness & Repayment Opportunities

RCSD Benefits Eligible Employees

Did you know the average time to pay off student loan debt is 17 to 20 years? We want to highlight options for your student loan forgiveness and repayment.

 https://studentaid.gov/

Student Loan Forgiveness Opportunities

Under the Teacher Loan Forgiveness Program, if you teach full-time for five complete and consecutive academic years in a low-income school or educational service agency, and meet other qualifications, you may be eligible for forgiveness of up to $17,500 on your Direct Subsidized and Unsubsidized Loans and your Subsidized and Unsubsidized Federal Stafford Loans.

You can potentially receive forgiveness under both the Teacher Loan Forgiveness Program and the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program, but not for the same period of teaching service. For example, if you complete five consecutive years of qualifying teaching and receive forgiveness of your Direct Loans under the Teacher Loan Forgiveness Program, any payments you made on your Direct Loans during that five-year period cannot be counted toward the required 120 monthly payments for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program. To receive Public Service Loan Forgiveness, you would need to make 120 more qualifying monthly payments.

If you complete the student loan forgiveness paperwork (on HR website - Benefits tab), Mrs. Kristi Garrard, our HR Manager, will have your employment with RCSD verified so that you can submit your student loan forgiveness application.

Student Loan Repayment Options

As an employee of RCSD, you have access to a new service from Candidly, which gives you options for paying off your student loan debt. For example, through Candidly you have the option to house (view and manage) all your loans in one place with a single login. You also have the opportunity to start rounding up change from daily purchases from a debit or credit card of your choice to go toward paying down the debt. Another component of this plan is to send an invitation to family and friends to make a one time or on-going contributions to help pay down your loans.

Contact Mrs. Garrard for additional information on loan forgiveness or repayment opportunities.  Her email is kri208@rcsd.ms or she is available by phone at 601-825-5590.
